The experience of UNNC students in the Department of History, UN. Making links across campuses

Following research where Chinese and Home students were interviewed about their experience of working in small groups together, there was a general feeling that internationalisation was not happening in the seminar room. Further research seemed to indicate that there was little mixing between groups out of class time, that each group had typical perceptions of each other which will be explored in this presentation. Further work and visits to UNNC campus to speak to students before and after their study abroad at Nottingham, and to observe lessons and speak to tutors seems to reveal that their attitude to teaching and learning remains different despite attempts to teach in the ‘Nottingham style’. This has implications for their marks when they come to Nottingham and some feel disappointed with their academic results. Ongoing research with personal tutors in Nottingham and Ningbo is attempting to address some of these issues.
